Five players to watch in Friday’s high school football games:
David Bell, Warren Central: The junior receiver had his best game since the season opener with seven catches for 121 yards and a touchdown ina 35-14 win over Carmel. On the season, Bell has 35 catches for 698 yards and five touchdowns. Warren Central hosts Detroit River Rouge in its final game of the regular season on Friday.
Emery Brough, Covenant Christian: The senior quarterback and free safety has helped the Class A Warriors to a 7-1 record going into Friday’s regular-season finale at Bowman Academy. Brough made three interceptions in last week’s 27-12 win over Traders Point Christian, running his season total to 11. He is second on the team in tackles with 41 and has passed for 871 yards and 10 TDs.
Broc Thompson, Ben Davis: The 6-2 senior is vastly improved from a year ago and has become one of the Giants’ best offensive weapons. Thompson had four catches for 78 yards in last week’s 42-7 win over Lawrence Central, three going for touchdowns. He has 48 catches for 749 yards and 10 TDs this season. Ben Davis hosts North Central on Friday.
Jalen Caldwell, Southport: The junior running back rushed for 101 yards on 10 carries and a touchdown in a 42-7 win over Bloomington North last Friday. In six games this season, Caldwell has four games of more than 100 rushing yards. He has rushed for 627 yards and four TDs. Southport hosts Columbus North on Friday.
Eddie Dziennik, Noblesville: The Millers have struggled to a 1-7 record but Dziennik, a junior linebacker, has had a monster season. Dziennik had 23 tackles two weeks ago in a loss to Hamilton Southeastern and 21 more last week against Brownsburg. On the season, Dziennik has 141 tackles (78 solo), including 13 for a loss. Noblesville closes the regular season at Avon.
