SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Summit League officials announced the 2018 Summit League Men's Soccer Championship bracket on Saturday, with the Denver Pioneers earning the championships No. 1 seed after clinching the outright Summit League regular season championship on Saturday.
This is the sixth consecutive season that Denver has won at least a share of The Summit League regular season championship and their second straight outright title.
As the top seed, the Pioneers (13-3-2, 4-0-1 Summit League) will host No. 4 seed Eastern Illinois (3-10-4, 1-2-2 Summit League) in a semifinal match at 1 p.m. (MT) on Thursday, Nov. 8. The Pioneers and Panthers played to a 0-0 draw in the schools' regular-season matchup on Sept. 29 in Charleston, Ill. This will be the second consecutive season that Denver and Eastern Illinois have met in the first round of the Summit League Championship. The Pioneers won last season's semifinal matchup 1-0.
The No. 2 seed goes to the Omaha Mavericks (6-7-1, 4-1-0 Summit League) who will take on third-seeded Purdue Fort Wayne (10-7-1, 2-3-0 Summit League) in a championship semifinal match at 4 p.m. (MT) on Nov. 8 in Denver, Colo. Omaha won the regular season matchup against the Mastodons, winning 4-1 on Sept. 29 In Fort Wayne, Ind. This will be the two schools first ever post-season meeting.
Following Thursday's semifinals, The Summit League Championship will continue on Saturday, Nov. 10 with the championship match kicking off at 3 p.m. (MT).
The Summit League Men's Soccer Championship is being held in Denver, Colo. and will be played at CIBER Field on the campus of the University of Denver. Both semifinal matches will be televised on Altitude Sports and streamed live on The Summit League website. Saturday's championship match will be broadcast live on Altitude Sports and simulcast on ESPN3.
